Ngaa Niho Taniwha O Mangakootukutuku“Niho Taniwha”

As you drive into Hamilton fron Te Awamutu, you are greeted by three new structures at our TWOA site Mangakootukutuku campus at Glenview.

These Niho Taniwha are a contemporary symbolism of the Whakatauki,

“He Piko, He Taniwha”

, “for every bend of the river resides a Chief”; this reference holds great significance to Leadership of our past, our present and our future.

The colours of the Niho honours the Whakatauki,

“ Kotahi te kōwhao o te ngira e kuhuna ai te miro mā, te miro pango, te miro whero.
Ā muri, kia mau ki te whakapono, kia mau ki te ture, kia mau ki te aroha.” nā Pōtatau Te Wherowhero

There is but one eye of the needle through which must pass the white thread, the black thread and the red thread.
Hold fast to faith, hold fast to the law, hold fast to the love. .

The Niho design embraces that maxim, “He rei ngā niho he paraoa ngā kauae - Biting into educational opportunities – for you, by you”.
