Uiraroa Marae is nestled along the banks of the Rangitaiki River. It stands beneath the shade of the sacred mountain, Putauaki.
Uiraroa Marae is the oldest marae along the banks of the Rangitaiki river in Te Teko, and indeed the Whakatane region. The original Tipuna whare was built in 1800. That original whare burned down and was replaced by the current whare and retains the name Uiraroa.
