01 January 1952 - 04 October 2008

John was from Taiwhakaaea Marae and lay in state there until his burial on Thuursday 9 October 2008
John has worked tirelessly for Ngati Awa. Championing the cause for our Iwi radio station in Whakatane. First with Tumeke and then with Sun FM. He was also a dedicated member of the Maori Party, setting up and maintaining their website since it's inception.

Kia ora Aunty Hine & whanau, Dad and the whanau in aussie all send their condolences and aroha to you all. Uncle John was a humorous and bubbly character and was one of our favourite uncles (especially when he used to imitate a chinese man on the phone when our friends would ring - lol) Arohanui always, The Wipiiti whanau xx
