Ruatāhuna Kapa haka team meeting held 17 Here Turi Kōkā (August) 2008 Uwhiarae Marae, Ruatāhuna.
Hui commenced – 12:45pm
Present – Taane Rua, Taima Teepu, Te Makariini Temara, Te Kuranui Edwardson, Ani Apirana, Hinauri Roberts, Rawiri Teka, Te Morehu Tuhua, Mere McLean, Reremoana Taputu, Sherydene Iraia, Oriwa Waiariki, Kotiro Waiariki, Tāne Waiariki, Christine Waiariki.
Late coming in to the meeting – Sam Tuhua, Honey Amohau, Tira Miki, Ruahine Te Are, Moetu Miki, Paratene Ripia, Matiria Temara, Kalem Borrell.

Nomination for interim secretary:Mere McLean has been nominated as interim secretary by Ani Apirana.

*(Entry – Chairman enters the meeting and also gives his apologies to the meeting on being late. Tāne Waiariki steps down from this position. Sam Tuhua chairs the meeting.) Set fee:Hinauri Roberts has asked if we can have a set fee for our “noho marae” reference made from financial report.
Accounts to be paid:There are accounts that need to be paid including the noho marae accounts from this year.
- Te Kuranui has asked if the whakaaro for her under the accounts to be paid stay with the kapa haka group.
Gas Bottles:
Taima Teepu has put forward that the kapa haka group should purchase there own gas bottles.
Chairman has asked if we move the above topic to general business.- Te Makariini Temara has asked that Te Kuranui receive her whakaaro and not give it back to the kapa haka.
- Te Kuranui is standing firm and does not want to accept the whakaaro.
Te Matatini:Te Makariini Temara has been informed by Tau Waaka of the regional Mataatua committee that funding is available for the group from the committee. We are looking at receiving around $10,000.
- Matatini $1,000 and then an extra $10,000.
This kaupapa has been referred to the treasurerBalance of the Ruatāhuna kapa haka account after accounts are paid and present funds in hand banked stand at $7,715.49.

A letter of resignation has been received by Whaitiri Tawa.
Chairman has asked that we move the above topic to general business. Email:An email was received by Perry Kelly there were two issues raised in the email.
- If we performed in Opotiki for the Mataatua regional’s is our spot in the rōpū valid or do we have to fight for our spot.
- Fundraising idea to hold a social night.
Fundraising idea has been referred to the fundraising committee. General Business: Letter:Chairman will approach Whaitiri and her family in regards to her letter of resignation.
*(NOTE: Letter has been accepted by the Ruatāhuna kapa haka team) Sewing machine:Motion has been put forward to purchase a sewing machine for the kapa haka team. The set budget to purchase the machine is $1500. Honey Amohau has been nominated to purchase the machine.

Chairman has extended his apologies to Taima Teepu for his early outburst and a motion has been put forward that the kapa haka purchase three gas bottles and 2 storage containers.Moved by Taima Teepu, seconded Tāne WaiarikiAll agreed and carried National festival:The national Matatini festival will be held over four days in Tauranga’s Bay Park stadium. The festival will be held from the 19th – 22nd February 2009.
There will be 36 teams competing. Te Morehu Tuhua has also made reference to the Te Arawa regional’s that were held last weekend. The standard of the competition was very high.
Te Whanganui a Tara regionals:Te Makariini Temara would like to take the opportunity to congratulate Tuhoe ki Poneke – Tutemaungaroa for winning their regional’s and also making the nationals festival. Tuhoe ki Poneke were our hosts when Tuhoe went to Wellington for the CNI and the TE UREWERA claims. We now have three teams from Tuhoe in the festival.
Accommodation:The Tauranga Moana marae will accommodate teams living outside of the Mataatua region. At the moment the kapa haka team is looking for accommodation.
- Mataatua committee: The Mataatua kapa haka committee has booked all Mataatua teams into motels in Tauranga (for a group of 44 only). This option was made available to us by Tau Waaka of the committee.
- Te Kuranui Edwardson has mention that Flo Taputu is looking at booking the Pukehina marae for Ruatahuna.
- Ani Apirana has mentioned that Te Mataku Borell is looking to see if the Tauranga Boys College can be made available for the group.
- Lou Te Kani has also mentioned that Matapihi marae maybe available for the group.
- Matiria has also make a suggestion on where we could stay.
The group needs to make contact with Tau Waaka in relation to accommodation. Kapa Haka Timetable:We now look at making a timetable for the group in relation to when and where we run our practices. All marae, yet to be confirmed. Practices to begin: Friday 8p.m. (on the floor), and end Sunday 3p.m. Groups for duties and kai purchases will be established at the first wananga at Uwhiarae. Kai for the first wananga to be purchased by the Kapa Haka putea.

An idea was put forward in the meeting to source outside help in relation to the kapa haka – At a hura kohatu held last year an invitation was put forward to Sir Howard Morrison to run a session for the group on singing. Hopefully the offer still stands and we will be looking at the timetable when in Rotorua where we can request his assistance and use his expertise.
*(Ngapani Miki to set up.) Sound:On that note – Merepeka Teka has requested as part of her studies (practicum) to run a session with the group in relation to singing.
Motion has been made to set up a core group for the kapa haka team to prepare the programme and items.
Profile:Motion has been put forward to create a profile on the Ruatahuna kapa haka team to help with funding and other purposes.

Ani Apirana still has some T-Shirts and Lava Lava’s from the regionals, these have been paid for and are yet to be distributed. She has also asked that if a further order is to be made, we need to order in bulk to keep costs down.
