Director Vincent Ward’s acclaimed new film – Rain Of The Children – has been nominated for five Qantas Film And Television Awards 2008 in the build-up to its New Zealand release.Ward weaves drama with documentary to unravel the extraordinary story of Puhi Tatu, the elderly Tuhoe woman who welcomed the young filmmaker into her home in 1978 for the observational documentary In Spring One Plants Alone. The earlier documentary depicted her life in the remote Urewera Ranges, caring for her schizophrenic son Niki.
In this new cinema feature, he sets out to unravel the mystery that has haunted him for 30 years – who was Puhi?

Rain Of The Children is scheduled for a pre-season release in Whakatane, Rotorua, Wairoa, Tokoroa, Wanganui, Gisborne and Kerikeri on September 11. It will then be released nationwide on September 18.
The awards ceremonies are scheduled to be held September 12 and 13.
