REGISTRATIONs…is a must for all whanau who whakapapa to Ngai Tamawhariua o Matakana te Iwi o Ngāi Te Rangi. Remember the name Ngai Te Rangi derives from our Tupuna Ngai Te Rangi-houhiri and we are all proud descendents of our tupuna.
Every whanau member will be pondering why we should register to this Kaupapa and that’s a very good question, “WHY & What for??? The reason what and "why" we should all be registered, it’s because our Raupatu claims are based on how many whanau are registered to our Hapu and Iwi, which will impact on our claim that we as Ngai Tamawhariua have submitted under, what we call a Raupatu “WAI number”.
What this mean is the larger our whanau number registered under our Hapu and Iwi name, the larger our stake becomes in our claim to the Crown.
So everything comes back to two very, very important things which allows us as whanau to have a legitimate claim and that’s whakapapa and whenua, without whakapapa we have no link to the whenua.
