This Tauparapara was recited in the mid 1800's. the Tauparapara is the history of the Ngati Whawhakia tribe and where they lived during those times. The Tauparapara gives the names of places, rivers, urupa, maunga and the geographical boundaries of the Ngati Whawhakia tribal lands. These lands were awarded to Ngati Whawhakia by way of a battle against the Ngati Mahuta and Ngati Toa tribes. Another tribe that stayed on the land with Ngati Whawhakia was Ngati Rangi.
This Tauparapara is one of two that belong to Ngati Whawhakia. The first was recorded in the diary of Rev Heta Kereru Tarawhiti.
Ngati Whawhakia also had three waka that was owned by Rangatira of the tribe.Unfortunately I was unable to get the names of each waka.
