As you will no doubt notice as you browse through, we are under construction.

It can take time to find the appropriate content and layout it all out. So ... as you surf through the site, you will notice links not quite linking anywhere, videoclips not yet loaded, blank pages or pages that change constantly in layout - but all of these things will change as we grow into this role and understand the potential of our new taonga.

You will also notice that a large part of the information, for now, is of particular whanau lines and history.  As a website content manager, a large part of the site development is limited to my own resources and contributions.   As more whanau take ownership of this taonga, the greater the balance will be.  We welcome anyone and everyone who wishes to actively be a part of the development of this website.  This can be by contributing as a whanau member or becoming a part of the website team.

Under Construction

Our site is a living extension of the Marae. This is our Virtual Marae Atea. So just as the our own Marae whanau change, grow, learn and evolve, so does the site.

So, each time you come back there will be new content, different layouts, exciting news and whanau updates. Content regarding our past, our tupuna, content regarding our present, our whanau now and content regarding the future and our preparations in embracing the adventures ahead.

We have to take into mind though, this has not been an easy decision. To exposure our Marae to the world, so we approach it with caution and for a lot of the information, we keep it safe within the whanau only sections of the site.

This new digital world has changed everything in our lives today, the way we play, work, and live. It has enhanced the way we communicate with each other and using this tool will help break down a lot of bridges blocking that communication.

Te Kauri Marae Owned

The neat thing about our new website is, everything on it and within it belongs to us

It is a reflection on our Marae, our whanau and life is breathed into the site each time we participate.  This participation is asked of everyone, here and abroad, tamariki to kaumatua.

We have so much talent and skills within our whanau and there is plenty of work to be done here.  We need your tupuna history, whanau memories, your dot on our map, your war heroes, your artwork, the tamariki artwork and waiata.

And thats just the beginning!  The more you contribute, the greater our Marae Cultural Capital  which in turn effecs our Financial Capital.

How Do I?

Te Kauri Marae Website Support

Everytime we contribute, we participate, we interact and grow as a whanau, we build our capital up. For Te Kauri Marae, this interacting, communicating and contributing is vital for our survival and restoration.

Wikipedia explains cultural capital as the knowledege, experience and connections one has had through the course of their life that enables them to succeed more so than someone from a less experienced background.

In our context, our cultural capital is the combination of our whanau experiences, knowledge and the connections we all have that together strengthens and add value to our whanau worldwide and ultimately our Marae.

Using this site is a powerful way to transmitting Te Kauri Marae aspects of culture, heritage and identity to our future generations and those that have moved away from home.

This is also gives them the platform to contribute back to us their own cultural identity and capital.

In doing this - we will become a taonga rich Whanau, Marae and Hapu.

To find out how to participate not only on this website ... click on the How Do I? Button thoroughout the site.
