Tena Koutou Katoa,
It was a real pleasure that I also spoke with another of our whanau residing in Christchurch called Elsie Roder, however she is a descendant of Nuku Tipene Tarawhiti and indeed one of the last members along with her sister and brother of our family that knew and had met and lived with our Great Grandfather. I will always remember this treasured whanaunga sharing with me the story of Nuku Tarawhiti and his photograph that she described with precise detail.
I will never ever forget when Elsie told me where this photo could be found and where it would hanging and what it looked like, she described it exactly as I had found it, this was true evidence of the rapport that she had with our Koro tupuna Nuku Tarawhiti.
I have not spoken with this whanaunga since 1995.Nearly fourteen years later, I can say very clearly that Elsie can share stories and give testimony of our Kaumatua that no-one else can. Of those living today in our whanau, there are four left that knew Nuku Tipene Tarawhiti.
Therefore I was over the moon and lost for words when I was able to speak to our whanaunga Elsie Roder. She sounds well and is working with Hauora amongst the Ngai Tahu People.
Nga mihi whanui ki a koe e te puna Matauranga te kaikorero o nga ra o mua. Pai Marire
