I was just recently in Christchurch for the 150 years Commemoration of the 2nd Canterbury Battalion NMWC(Nelson Marlborough West Coast) RNZIR. I had the honour to have served with this worthy and great Battalion and represented the Battalion in 1990 at Gallipoli. Whilst I was there I wore the King George VI Cross also known as the NZ Memorial Cross that was given by the NZ Defence force to those Mothers, wives or families that had family members killed in action over seas. This cross belonged to Patara Tarawhiti that was killed on 5 July 1942 in El Alamein and is buried in El Alamein listed in the Commonwealth War Graves.
