Invitation to Signing of AIP

This is a panui to invite you to Ngati Makino signing of Agreement in Principle.
Agreement in Principle is not Deed of Settlement. When dealing with the Crown over Treaty issues there are a number of steps, with Deed of Settlement being the final outcome. After Waitangi Tribunal hearings, negotiations between Iwi and the Crown begin where the finer details of compensation for the injustices suffered (in whatever forms agreeable) are worked out. As a result of the negotiations an Agreement in Principle (AIP) is drawn up and signed off by the Crown and the Iwi. This is the stage that Ngati Makino is at. Once AIP is signed Ngati Makino takes the offer to the Iwi for ratification. Depending on the outcomes of the issues that still require further discussion and whether the Iwi accepts the offer outlined in AIP or not, Deed of Settlement will follow.
