NGĀ KŌRERO O NGĀ PAPA KĀINGA

In October 1991, Brian Te Whatu began construction on the Kaumātua Flats (now referred to as the Marae Flats). Initial invitations were extended to the whanau to express their interest in obtaining a flat with only three responding. They were Te Whetūmārama and Kawa Kereama, Ngāpukapuka and Hariata Kereama and Darkie and Betty Hillman. The flats were completed in January 1992 and occupied soon after. They were officially opened and blessed on February 1st 1992.
