PIPIWAI’S PEOPLE YAKASole Sponsor: RUATANGATA MOTORS Ruatangata Motors have been moving along quite steadily improving their services for all the communities especially out our way and we are proud to promote them as our sponsor. Bosie Peihopa, buried on Monday Tihema Peihopa (nee)Waa, Deepest Sympathy for the loss to each whanau. Wananga/ waiata has been steadily gathering momentum with the second night being just as popular as the first, even with other agendas going on such as the wonderful ‘Mothers Day Dinner’ at the Chapel put on by husbands. A formal invitation was put out to all mothers and nanas in the community and those who attended were treated like they deserved to be. It’s nice when this sort of occasion happens. Back to the wananga the next one is on Friday 22 May, and it will start at approx 6.00pm and finish around late, all are welcome and please bring a small plate, biscuits or a cake will be more than plenty. We had been reminded that $2 per head will be required as a koha to the Marae for the use of electricity as was in the past. There has been interest shown in the wananga that allows payments of up to $18,000 to a marae for holding them. This is from Awanuiarangi Trust who pays for up to 50 students to attend 5 weekends from 2pm Friday to 2pm Sun which is a big commitment, but the benefit to Tau Henare Marae, and the education for our tamariki/mokopuna would be more than worth the effort. The whole wananga will be supervised by administrators’ who act on the trusts’ behalf so we need to be aware of the process otherwise we lose the putea. Junior rugby began last weekend and all 3 Pipiwai junior teams were pumping and the players were having a great time in the inclement whether. There were some new faces but they will become familiar as the season progresses. JB 6’s played an individuals game as coach Hoori Paul constantly shouted instructions from the sideline which fell on deaf ears however a very entertaining game to watch as were the other two. JB3’s are coached by Kelvin Nathan and Dillon Tohu. Nursery entertainment crew were again looked after by Trudie Tipene and supported by husband Heke and parents/nan’s Seniors played Mangakahia in a hard fought tussle with the winning try scored in the dying minute by Mangakahia. Players of the day were Josh Snowden (forwards), and for the backs Anthony Wilson who scored the only 2 tries and kicked 2 penalties Score14-19 to Mangakahia. This Sat seniors play Whangruru at Whangaruru. WATER PRESENTATION Thursday 28 May 2009 will be held at Tau Henare Marae, which includes a workshop, with attendees invited from Motatau, Matawaia and Waikare Maraes. Tahi Morton will go through Legislation on how to update our funding, also Resource Management Plans. This presentation will benefit us all so please find time to attend Marae Equipment is being abused; fire extinguishers are being emptied and the Fire blanket is missing from inside the wharekai.
