Te Ahuareka o Ngati Hine – the Ngati Hine festival
Tena koutou e nga uri a Hineamaru, Te Ahuareka o Ngati Hine – the Ngati Hine festival was a huge success yesterday with thousands of people converging on the Porowini marae, Otiria to celebrate our Ngati Hinetanga and whanaungatanga, to showcase talent, to have fun and generally soak up the ‘ahuareka’ atmosphere. A brilliantly fine day greeted everyone and the talent was evident throughout as the fantastic Kapa Haka and all the various entertainers performed on stage in an extravaganza of flair and ability that entertained the huge crowd. The stage routines culminated in performances by the big three acts, Da Boyz (featuring Tukaha Milne), Huaki Puanaki and Ruia Aperehama. Congratulations to all the Kapa Haka who performed so well and to Te Puao for winning the overall aggregate prize. The many food stalls kept people fed and watered with a huge variety of foodstuffs. The information stalls provided interest areas as well which included a whakapapa venue, mirimiri, art exhibition, mau rakau and many other significant pursuits. Thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of the day – you’re roles both large and small resulted in a kaupapa we can all be proud of as Ngati Hine and which we can keep building on for the future. Speaking of which, the organizing committee have not decided on what the future of the festival will be, so your thoughts and feedback are welcome.
