March 10th 2010

The community passes on condolences’ to Heti’s family, Maori and Tongan. Daddy Boy’s daughter who passed away last week.
Belated Welcomes
In the past month or two the Yaka has forgotten the usual welcome to whanau who have come back to Pipwai and so, we welcome Sam Tohu, Napi and their mokopuna’s who have been back for a short while and have settled in quite handsomely. The proud gran’s were at the primary schools senior swim competition held at Kokopu School cheering on loud and proud, as were all the parents who made it to the carnival. Also all the way back from Hamilton the Tipene’s, Piwa, Jackie and their young family. They have been enjoying their return to Pipiwai and are quite often seen at the basketball court giving dad a hard time. Down at the homestead, Freeman Paul’s daughter Leah has come home and Te Horo School has also benefitted with her two children added to the roll. Finals winners move on to the next level held at Whangarei details will be in the school newsletter.

Len Bristowe the shy talented self acclaimed songwriter has also moved back with Luana and their whanau so Pipiwai is slowly growing again but as we have also lost some of our whanau growth is not as good as it could be.

OUR KIDS TRAIN FOR THE FIRE SERVICE…..
The following photos show what happens when Te Horo gets visits from various services such as Hancocks Rural Fire Dept.

It seems like these fellas haven’t paid their water bill.

Marae News
Tau Henare Marae has been busy already this year with 3 tangis, two unveilings and the fundraising wanangas all in the last 3 months. The wanangas finish this weekend and not too soon as it has been hard having these liquor free weekends but really it’s been great listening to the singing and humor from the resident comics. After 3 months in office the marae committee has been slowly repairing and quick fixing various problems to help make the marae more user friendly, the quick fixing hopefully will suffice until major renovations begin. There is now a fundraising indicator on the marae fence for all to see and we will be encouraging whanau to consider donating toward the levy as soon as possible so that the build can begin this xmas. There is approx 3-4 months left to make this years funding target so please, everyone who whakapapas from Pipiwai don’t dwell on it for too long as we would like it to happen and if we all do it together it will, happen. Let your cuzzies and aunts and uncles know as well as your nieces and nephews and anyone who can spare up to $200.

Trustee: Huhana Tawhai: Wharekai. The current electrical set up can’t cope with both zips and bay marie working at the same time, it cuts out. We have to live with it until the renovations are carried out.
Blackie: I’ve taken the califont into town to get fixed. Thank you to our all whanau who do a awesome job working in the kitchen specially given the conditions that exist.
Maraea: Concerned with the wharekai been left paru at times. Once the renovations are done, it will be easier to keep the wharekai clean.
Trustee: Roma Pihema: wharenui. All fine.
It’s good to see the new white sheets across the front of the stage again. Thanks to Len & Luana Bristowe for the donation of the sheets.

General Business:
Maraea Neho questioned the objective of the Komiti wāhine and their role at hui mate.
Roma: we donate $100 to every hui to get them started and we cook if the family travels from a long distance, but if they are here, we allow them to do it.
We the Komiti wāhine are proud of what we do, we know how to treat the people. Kei konei mātou mo te katoa o ngā whānau.
Len : E mihi ana ki te Komiti wahine, e miharo ana ki a ratou me a rātou mahi rangatira.

Before the official commencement of the meeting, during the business section and during the general business, there were lengthy and heart felt discussions regarding tikanga. It was suggested that a wānanga be held where our elders will be able to enlighten the younger generation on all aspects of tikanga. The Wananga will not necessarily be a fundraising venture but purely for the passing on of information.

Milly Paul: presented a prosposal for Tau Henare and Eparaima Makapi to combine and run a Wananga on tangihanga process. The Wananga will run for 10 weekends or one whole week. The people will do the first level in the first 5 weekends, then move on to the second level of a further 5 weekends. The two marae will then split the profits.
It was resolved that she speak with our funding representative to sort out the finer details. It will be determined at a later date whether or not the proposal will be sanctioned.

Blackie : We need big rolls of toilet paper for toilets.

Puti: Lottery board and ASB meet at the end of March. We don’t have to do all buildings all at once, we can fundraise for one building, apply for that funding, keep saving and then apply for the next one.
Blackie: Our current target is $100,000. With the new format once we raise $60.000 we can start applying for funding and have the wharekai done by Christmas. We keep fundraising for the total of $100,000 then apply for the next lot of funding.
Len: need to get the money in, all inform and encourage our extended whānau to pay the levy of $150-$200, or whatever they can afford. A huge thank you to all of you who have already paid, our total is rising all the time.

Bella for next month’s agenda: Would like to have Nga Tau E Toru restored.
Moses: The building is really beyond repair.
Huhana: Bruce her son and Danny her brother will be available to help.

Len: I have got some posts for front fence, all koha. We just have to get them out here.
If people want things brought up at the next meeting could they please get in touch with Mata to put them on the agenda.

Nga Tairua: There will be a meeting for Nga Tairua Wahitapu beginning at 5:00pm on Thursday 01.04.2010, that is an hour and a half before the Trustee meeting for the marae. This is an invitation to all our whānau.

Closing prayer: Sam
Closed : 9:40 pm.

Thank you to young Tom Palmer for knowing what to do to get the chiller going again. Also for showing Blackie what to do if it happens again.
Thank you to Sam for passing on the information as to why the pump was clicking on and off every 20 seconds or so.
