POU HAKI RESTORATION UNDERWAY
Restoration of the marae pou haki began on Monday 25th Jan. The whanau team made up of Charlie Hunuhunu, Jason Slade & Tahu Paul is under the expert guidence of Jim Schuster of the Historic Places Trust. Jim & the team are undertaking a job that has long been overdue for the continued health of our taonga whakairo.
Although we have an extensive amount of work happening at the marae at the moment with the pou haki project & the new ablution / whare awhina building, please remember that that pa is operating as normal and NOT closed. Feel free to visit the teams at your marae at anytime. You may even want to give a hand if you're free.
Our next major project is the restoration of the whakairo on the front of Rangitihi so hopefully our pou haki restoration team will apply their new learned skills from Jim Schuster to this future project.
