1.  Current situation.

Since April 2007, Pahauwera iwi has met regularly to discuss and put a rebuilding programme together.   These hui have been well attended, the outcome of which has been a real willingness to rebuild the Raupunga Te Huki Marae as soon as practicable.   Part of this programme has seen the formation of a strategic plan comprising of working parties each with their own set of objectives to address what needs to be done to rebuild.   A key objective of the rebuilding programme is to take stock as an iwi and to revive those lost art froms under the expert guidance of the Pahauwera people.   Ngati Pahauwera has a huge resource of qualified builders, designers, surveyors, artists, tikanga and te reo experts that have pledged their support and assistance in the rebuilding programme.

The hau kainga along with koroua and kuia are all important to the programme design and implementation.   The Marae Trustees will remain in place to continue with marae business as usual throughout the rebuilding project and beyond.   They are the kaitiaki of the marae and hold the mana of the whenua.

2.  Strategic Planning.

Arising out of the iwi hui held since April 2007, the following working parties have been formed and mandated to carry out the following:

Steering Committee - The decision making body of the rebuilding project for and on behalf of the Marae Trustees, of which Roger Aranui is the Chairperson.

Communication & Administration Group - To keep iwi and local community informed on progress thoughout rebuilding project.

Design & Planning Group - Overall responsibility for concept plan, final design, (including nga toi), consents and costing of buildings and associated facilities.

Funding & Fundraising Group - Overall responsibility for a coordinated approach to fundraising both locally and nationally, and assisting the Marae Trustees in their application to Funding Organisations.

Tikanga & Kawa Group - since hui a iwi they are now known as " Te Kahui Manu Taiko" and responsible for reinvigorating the history, language and song of Ngati Pahauwera and providing appropriate tikanga and kawa throughout the building programme.

3.   Finance.

Our goal is to raise $1.8m by applying to the Marae Heritage & Facilities Lotteries Funding.   One of the criteria in applying is that we must have 1/3 of the funds requested as our contribution - SO we are hard out fundraising to that end.

Fundraising events and intiatives coming up in the new year will be advertised on the Events pages of this website... Watch out also for the wananga dates on Weaving, Tukutuku, kowhaiwhai etc..

The Raupunga School has been secured as a Marae base for hui, wananga, mahi toi workshops, storage and for use by the building teams...

A this stage power is in, facilities are clean and secure, just need to get the water system up and running and some window repairs done and we should be in.   We're all looking forward to making good use of the school as a focal point for the Marae Rebuild Project.

We are also on track to hold a rededication service at the Marae site to kick off the start of building on   -   SATURDAY 12TH APRIL 2008   -   10am,

NAU MAI HAERE MAI ... MAURIA MAI TOU AROHA TOU ROUROU KAI HOKI

Kia ora whanau... the following korero is an exerpt from the latest Raupunga Te Huki Marae Panui 002/08...dated...29 Feb 2008

Well we are pretty much at the 'tin tacks' end of our project.   It has been a huge undertaking working through the whole process of consultation, applying for funding support, building permits, resource consents and the like, our monthly hui a iwi have helped us to focus (and refocus) on the tasks at hand,   All going well, after having crossed the 't's and dotted the 'i's we hope to start building in April...   Awesome!   And now that we are close to starting we need to look at scheduling a time-line of eventsw.

Hui a iwi will continue to be our forum for updates on progress with the building stages and the other activities we have yet to start ie...

  • Weaving, tukutuku, kowhaiwhai and whakairo
  • Landscaping the grounds
  • More fundraising events
  • Sourcing resources - furniture, kitchenware, manchester, accessories etc...
  • Organising the opening etc...
  • Waiata practices etc...

So come along to the hui a iwi, if you are unable to attend, then let someone know to put in your apologies, or send a email to : tehukimarae@gmail.com, send a fax:  (this is new) to 06 8376 892, or just give us a call...

Don't forget to check out the Website every now and then ... to keep up with the play - re the marae and Pahauwera in general.

Ka nui tena... noho ora mai koutou i raro i nga parirau o te runga rawa...

Vilma
