Hi!      Hello to you all    Salutations

I’m feeling homesick reading all these messages and looking at all these photo's … and coming home to the Poukai for the first time in many years and seeing all my nieceS, nephews and cousins - Heta's, Heke's, Rangitutia's, Kopa's, Harawira's and my Tunoho whanaunga holding up that banner for all of us who live away from home, just makes me all tangi tangi and my eyes get kind of blury and I just want to say one hell of a big thank-you to all of you my whānau … from me and all the whānau down here in Ōtautahi ... Mean Whānau Mean..Tumeke!  Special shout out to Huiaarangi (Jerry) Heta and Arlia, Puhoi and Lorraine, big cuz Victor, George and Barren, cuzzy Ben - awesome to catch up with you and cuzzy Pita Manaia, Uncle Bill Heta, young Richard Heke, Bill and Ngaire and of course Lloyd and Ata and to my nieces & nephews and those who I've missed, Kia ora Koutou katoa!!! Arohanui Lungi
Can you tell me about my tupuna?  Kahurangi Mauriohooho, (died 30/11/42), or Puhiwahine Pouawha?(died 9/5/42).  E-mail Me Here

Ko Tararua nga pae maunga,
Ko Manawatu te awa,
Ko Mahinaarangi te whare,
Ko Kereru te marae,
Ko Ngati Ngarongo te hapu,
Ko Ngati Raukawa te iwi,
Ko Hone Makamereni toku tupuna ...
Our marae is presently co-owned by Ngati Takihiku and Ngati Ngarongo after Takihiku (2?) whare fell into disrepair, and as you can imagine we are now very closely intermingled. The reason that I made contact is because I am investigating the Ngati Raukawa carving style and those carvers from the late 19th century as the basis for my Doctoral thesis prososal for submission for a PhD. Philosophy (Fine Arts), which doubles as a Post Graduate Special topic paper.  I am especially interested in Hokowhitu McGregor whose whanau is closely linked to my mother's whanau - McMillan, who are also from Matakana Is.  I also contect to Maraeroa 'C' ,'Tohaia'.  I have completed a Master of Maori Visual Arts (Hons) degree here at Te Putahi a Toi and I work in the medium of paint.  My background has been in teaching carving, both as a tutor and a teacher at Hato Paora college. I also have a qualification in computer graphics and I am quite excited about using our iwi imagery in a painted format, because some of the 2D style used by our carvers lends itself well to technological aspects of art like animation.  I am speaking of the kaeaea figure like the one on your maihi and the circular manaia figures that I havent seen in any other carving style.  Hopefully I will get to exhibit some of my own work at the Rotorua Museum soon.  If there is any information (referals, phone numbers etc) you can provide, please e-mail me.
Kia ora everyone, my name is Tara Pinehuia Mauriohooho Dalley. I am the moko of Hariata (Harriet) & Te Paraha (Blundell) Mauriohooho and daughter of Puhi Mauriohooho. I found this site not too long ago and I think it's brilliant! It's hard for many of us to get home to the marae so this website is great for staying in touch with what's going on. The history page is really interesting, I know a few things that my koro has told me and its great to learn more about our iwi and hapu. I just wanted to congratulate the creators of this site because you have all done a wonderful job and its awesome to see that people are utilising it. :
Kia ora Whanau ... It's a pleasure knowing who my whānau is and that's why I've joined up.  Our mother is Mary Sarah Tunoho and my father is Ronnie Kainamu Tapatahi.  We are still finding out who is related to us on our mothers side, as our mother was adopted out to the Martin family ... but we do know most of the cuzns on mums side, and I actually work with a cuzn, Donald Hunopo.  So I hope this sort helps you figure out where we fit in.

Kia Ora whanau - I am one of Nanny Rita Tuatara Heta (nee Humapo) and Koro Moon Heta's grandaughters'. Ko Ariana Te Arihi toku ingoa. My father is David Rawiri Te Arihi and my mother is Lena Mata Te Arihi (nee Heta). I have two younger sisters. Rangihaunui Lena Te Arihi and Sharlene Wairemana Te Arihi. I also have one brother. Mason Lee Te Arihi. The love of my life is an Aussie stud named Michael Troy Boyce and we share two beautiful childen together. Zoe Jade Daniella Boyce (05.06.03) and Nicholas Michael Boyce (22.03.05).  After mum passed away, we moved to Melbourne in Oz. I have been here now for quite a number of years and the last time we were all home was when our Kuia Nanny Rita passed away.  I practically spent the first 17 years of my life at Owairaka Marae thanks to our Kuia Rita and Koro Moon. I grew up with all the pa cuzzies of my generation as did my sisters and brother. I feel completely blessed that I was raised at Owairaka; my backbone, my blood, my rock, my home.  I'm am so pleased to be a part of this. Owairaka is forever engraved in my heart no matter how far apart we are. When I hear our tupuna calling, that's when I know a visit is well overdue.  Aroha Nui Ari......... Mmwah xxxoooxxx
Tēna koutou te whānau!Tēna koutou ... Ko Taonui rāua ko Te Rangipokanga Rangitutia ōku mātua.  Ko Wharepuhunga te maunga.  Ko Waipa te awa.  Ko Raukawa ki Wharepuhunga te iwi.  Ko Ngati Hineone te hapu.
Kia Ora.  My name is Taylar Ann Taki-Poihakena - daughter to Motutara Poihakena.  I didn't know this was here. It's really hard for me to get more info about my iwi because I live in Australia, but this is a GREAT help. I really do appreciate this and I know other people will as well.  Thank you.
Kia Ora ... It was so wonderful to discover this website, I signed up immediately.  My brother and I are the grandchildren of David Heta. Our mums name is Hine Heta who has one sister Waitangi and one brother, David-john (who we call Kye).  I have recently been able research my grandmothers whakapapa, but on the Heta side my knowledge is limited and unclear.  I have not been able to find much recorded history of the Heta Whanau  (probabley because I was unsure of where to start).  One thing I would like to find out about is if there is any link to the Heta whanau living up in Kaeo ... but that's another story.  Very excited to be part of this positive and informative network.  Whoever started naumaiplace.com was a genius!  Also great to see 'Google Māori' and 'koreromaori.co.nz'.
It's great to see the site up and running ... now we can keep up with everything!
