Arapeta addresses the 2002 Degree Scholarship recipients and tells them the significant meanings of this area in Opua and how the Scholarships came about through land compensations in Opua. Also, the meaning of the Pouwhenua “Te Pou o Taumarere ki Hokianga”, this was made and erected by Arapeta Hamilton. The location is on the Opua waterfront, beyond the Russell Vehicle Ferry and outside the Opua Town Hall. The occasion was the 2002 Annual Te Runanga o Taumarere ki Rakaumangamanga Bachelor Degree Scholarships Grants Ceremony. Arapeta Hamilton was the founder member of these Scholarship Grants. They are unique to Taumarere Hapu of the Respective Runanga o Taumarere ki Rakaumangamanga. | |
